Vocre, a live language translator app for iOS, is now available for free on the App Store. The app let’s users speak to the phone, translates it into the desired language and gives both text and audible translation. What we like the most about this app is its conversational mode where it changes the language alternatively, letting the other person speak without having to toggle through settings. For instance, if English and Spanish are the selected languages, with English being the user’s language, Vocre will automatically change the input language to Spanish after the user has spoken in English, allowing the Spanish speaker to reply. Read on for more details and a video demo of the app.
Vocre currently supports 23 languages – Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese), Danish, Dutch, English (Australia, United Kingdom, United States), French (Canada, France), German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal), Russian, Spanish (Mexico, Spain, United States), and Swedish. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support any Indian languages at the moment. However, if you’ve had success with Siri, it will be able to take inputs in English with fair accuracy. Thankfully, it first converts the voice input to text and allows users to review (and edit) the text before translating it to the other language. We just wish they’d made this app free before MWC.
