The LG Optimus G will be LG’s top smartphone this holiday season and as we’re getting closer to its market launch (reportedly, later this month), the company is eager to keep its device in the headlines.The company has published a nice set of short video ads this week, meant to show you more about the phone. As a quick specs recap, the LG Optimus G runs on the latest quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 processor with a top-of-the-line Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

Other important features include a 4.7-inch, 720p True HD IPS display, a 13 megapixel camera, a 2,100mAh battery and Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

LG Optimus Vu/Intuition press shot spotted, possible 15th September release

Last week we reported that the LG Optimus Vu “phablet” could be rebranded as the LG Intuition when it eventually makes its way onto Verizon. While we’re sure many of you guys are probably aware of how the LG Optimus Vu looks like, the folks at DroidDog have received an image of what appears to be the press shot of the device when it arrives on Verizon, and more interestingly it seems that a 15th of September release date has been speculated. This is thanks to a date which was spotted in the press shot of the image, as dates and icons in press shots are usually pretty good indicators of when the device could be launching. However since Verizon has yet to actually announce the device, let alone give it a release date, we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now but do check back with us in September as hopefully an official release date will be given.

LG announces ICS for its LG Optimus LTE, Optimus LTE Tag, Optimus Vu

LG announces Android 4.0(ice cream sandwich) for its LG Optimus LTE, Optimus LTE Tag, Optimus Vu on June 4.When LG announced the Optimus Vu it promised that the phone would receive Ice Cream Sandwich within three months of its March launch. True to its word, the company has now announced the ICS update.

Along with the latest flavor of Google's mobile operating system, all three phones will also be bumped up to Optimus UI 3.0. The new skin had quite a few nice touches when we took a look at it with the Optimus LTE 2 earlier this month, including a new lock screen and a voice-activated camera shutter. However, it's not clear how many of the new software features demonstrated on that phone will make it to the three upgraded devices.

LG says they’ve sold 3 million LTE devices

LG released the LTE-enabled Optimus LTe last year on both Bell and TELUS. The company declared last January that the total sales for this specific device surpassed 1 million units in 3 months. Since then LG has released other LTE smartphones, such as the Optimus Vu, and have officially announced they’ve successfully sold over 3 million LTE devices worldwide. There’s no country breakdown of who has helped contribute to this success, only that North America, specifically Verizon in the States was a key player. Would be nice to see Bell and TELUS get a slight mention as they were one of the first carriers worldwide to adopt an LG LTE smartphone. LG plans to continue their LTE efforts and sell into 20 countries by the end of the year.

Good News for LG users LG could gives the massive update for its LG spectrum
So, prepare yourself. Tell your friends and family and get ready to download. The first update back in January was only about 10 MB and all it did was resolve an issue withNetflix playback. Now fast forward to four months later and we are getting a massive 127 MB update (VS920V6).

At that size you might want to download this one over Wi-Fi. Ice Cream Sandwich is not part of the new update, but it will fix many issues and add some enhancements. Verizon reminds you to make sure your battery is fully charged, and you are receiving a strong Verizon Wireless or Wi-Fi signal before beginning your software update.

Comparisons: LG Optimus 4X HD Vs Samsung Galaxy SIII

We see how LG's forthcoming quad core flagship, the Optimus 4X HD, compares to Samsung's recently launched equivalent, the Galaxy S3.

The LG Optimus 4X HD is sticking with the company's latest design ethos, which has pretty much followed the highly angular trend through to its logical conclusion.
This is about as stark a slab as you can expect to find anywhere.
It's a look that is starting to disappear with other manufacturers now shifting the other way and making more rounded designs, but we still think it looks good and LG, with its penchant for slick design and solid build quality, executes it better than most.
The handset proportions are nice and it features capacitive controls, rounded edges and a textured back panel. The design has been kept quite minimalist on the whole so there's very little in the way of visual clutter.
Samsung's Galaxy S3 is a different story altogether. As we mentioned, trends seems to be shifting back towards curvy phones and Samsung said pebbles were its inspiration for the Galaxy S3.
That's all well and good, and overall it's not a bad looking phone, but the build quality is absolutely awful with terrible quality plastic.
This is an easy win for LG because we're so disappointed with Samsung's Galaxy S3 in terms of the materials used, it does not feel like a premium device in the hand.

Display
While aesthetic trends shift back and forth between angular and curvaceous, the trend for increasingly larger displays continues with both handsets here.
LG's Optimus 4X HD has a 4.7-inch HD-IPS LCD capacitive multi-touch screen with a 1280x720 pixel resolution. The pixel density clocks in at an impressive 312 pixels-per-inch (ppi) and should deliver a sharp picture and decent brightness.
The Galaxy S3 has a slightly larger 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD capacitive display at the same resolution as its opponent, giving a slightly lower pixel density of 306ppi. It also features Corning Gorilla Glass for some added durability.
Again this produces crisp visual quality and has excellent contrast, deep blacks and good colour reproduction.
Between these two there should be very little difference in picture clarity.

Winner - Draw

Storage
The Optimus 4X HD has a single internal storage model with 16GB onboard, 1GB of RAM and a micro SD support for cards up to 32GB.
There's plenty of choice with Samsung's Galaxy S3 thanks to 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants, each with 1GB of RAM and the same micro SD storage capability as its rival.
Samsung wins this round by offering more variety.

Processor
The Galaxy S3 is Samsung's first quad core smartphone and runs four ARM Cortex-A9 cores on the company's own Exynos 4212 chipset clocked to 1.4GHz and paired with a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit (GPU).
Our hands-on with the handset showed this to a be a lightning quick combo, we experienced no slow-down and are fairly sure it'll handle whatever you care to throw at it.
LG's Optimus 4X HD also runs a quad core Cortex-A9 setup clocked at 1.5GHz on Nvidia's Tegra 3 chipset with a Geforce ULP GPU.
We've seen this configuration in action on a number of devices now, including the Optimus 4X HD itself during its unveiling at Mobile World Congress.
While benchmark tests might show other chips to be faster on paper, it's difficult to argue with the Tegra 3's competence when you have a device running on it in your hand.
It is blisteringly quick and will be more than capable of handling the latest games, multimedia and apps.
We can argue the detailed performance statistics indefinitely but there's very little point, most users will be more than happy with the capabilities and smooth experience of both these handsets.
In practical terms they're on a par.

Operating System
Both handsets run the most up-to-date build of Google's Android operating system, version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which has a lot of benefits over its predecessors.
Most notably is the overall improvement in speed, smoothness and performance which is noticeable over Gingerbread regardless of the power of the device running it. Stability is also much better this time around.
Another favourite tweak is the addition of a quick app-switcher control which makes multi-tasking, a consistent Android strong-point, even easier to use. It's been improved from 3.2 Honeycomb with the added swipe to close functionality.
Being on the same platform, there's not much to compare the two here. Admittedly, the Galaxy S3 does have a few added features but none of them are ‘must haves' and they don't put it ahead of the regular Ice Cream Sandwich experience.

Camera
Each device has a similar sounding camera setup at first glance as they both feature an 8-megpixel back-illuminated sensor (BSI) with a 3264x2448 pixel resolution.
Other shared features include an LED flash, geo-tagging, autofocus, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilisation.
The Galaxy S3 distinguishes itself with video stabilisation, exposure control, white balance, ISO control, panoramic mode and HDR.
On top of this, there's the ability to capture 3.3 pictures per second using a rapid multi-shot mode which also has a ‘best shot' picker ability. The Galaxy S3 also boasts simultaneous still image and 1080p HD video capture.
Both handsets have secondary cameras capable of conducting video calls. The LG Optimus 4X HD has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing secondary while the Samsung Galaxy S3's 2-megapixel secondary can capture video in 720p.
Samsung has the edge here with a more comprehensive offering. LG's setup is still competitive and should produce high quality pictures and video, but for sheer versatility the Galaxy S3 is superior.

Final Thoughts
Although the Optimus 4X HD isn't out yet we have high hopes it'll be one of LG's best phones to date, but then, historically we haven't been impressed with many of the company's phones.
Samsung's Galaxy S3 ticks a lot of the right boxes in terms of the camera, operating system, performance and storage. Both handsets have equally competent displays.
However, Samsung has earned itself a big red cross on its report card thanks to the uninspiring design, poor materials and shoddy build quality of the Galaxy S3 and with this it has completely tarnished an otherwise impressive flagship.
We'd use a Galaxy S3, sure, but we wouldn't pay money for the privilege.
At the moment we can't say whether we feel the same about LG's forthcoming flagship but we can't imagine it suffers from the same setback, so by default it becomes our preference here in terms of what we'd actually fork out cash for.

LG Optimus Elite is Up for pre order at Virgin mobile.The price is $149.99, and the smartphone will start shipping on May 15 (this coming Tuesday).
The LG Optimus Elite was announced last month for both Sprint and Virgin Mobile, but back then pricing and availability information was only made public for the Now Network. If you’re a Virgin Mobile customer (or fan), you can now head here and pre-order an LG Optimus Elite too.

The Optimus Elite is apparently the successor to the Optimus S (which was Sprint’s version of the Optimus One), but it doesn’t really come with much improved specs. It sports a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, an 800 MHz processor, a 5 MP rear camera, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of built-in storage space, microSD card support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, and NFC (with Google Wallet). It runs Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread.
The main feature seems to be the Elite’s eco-friendliness, it being made of 50% recycled plastics. The smartphone is also free from potentially hazardous materials such as PVC, comes with fully recyclable packaging, and features an extremely energy efficient charger.

Nokia says they are not upset by the Decision make by LG not to support the windows phone. Nokia’s President for the Americas, LG’s decision isn’t necessarily a bad thing. He says:

“I see significant commitment from HTC, Samsung. I actually see increased momentum and commitment form a various set of OEMs on the platform.”

Maybe Chris sees something we’re not seeing, but we wouldn’t exactly label HTC’s Titan II and Samsung’s Focus II as examples of “significant commitment”. He goes on to say that he’s “encouraged” that Samsung has decided to undercut the Lumia 900 on AT&T by $50 with the Focus II. Why? Again, we have no idea what’s been slipped into his drink. Customers can find the Lumia 900 on Amazon.com for $50, but how many customers buy devices online versus in one of AT&T’s many stores?

Speaking about that 4.3 inch beast, should you buy it? We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: None of today’s Windows Phones will be upgraded to Windows Phone 8. Just keep your wallet shut for five months. It’s not that hard.

Update: Android 2.3.4 is available for LG Optimus

Days after the LG Optimus Black launched on TELUS subsidiary Koodo with Gingerbread, its parent’s version is also sharing the Android 2.3.4 love.
The phone launched last summer with Android 2.2, and the 4-inch Skype-enabled smartphone has taken nearly ten months to receive an update to an operating system that debuted in 2010.
Cheekiness aside, this will be a very notable upgrade for Optimus Black users, bringing many speed improvements and design upgrades to the phone. Most notably, users can expect better battery life and the ability to back up settings to the cloud with a Google account.
LG has promised an update to Android 4.0 for the Optimus Black which will start in Q2 of this year. Whether it will take TELUS months longer to bring it to its version is anyone’s guess.
Upgrading to Gingerbread is a little more complicated than a traditional OTA update. You have to install LG’s PC Suite which is only compatible with Windows, and then head to the company’s support page to download the update.

LG Converging Towards Android, Dumps Windows Phones

According to folks over at WPCentral LG have no plans to introduce any new Windows Phone. LG saying that they are only concentrating on Android Phones. While LG say it will “continue research and development efforts” for Windows Phone, the company won’t be making any new handsets in the immediate future. A spokesperson for LG further alluded to poor sales, saying that “the total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure.”
LG was one of the first companies to launch a Windows Phone device, but it would appear that the partnership with Microsoft has not worked well for them financially.

LG Announced Its Own Cloud Service Know As LG Cloud Beta

After Google's Drive now its LG Cloud Beta, as today they announced its own cloud services in US and South Korea. For the first six months LG device owners will get 50GB of free data when they install the respective Android app on their gear, which is up there with the LG-Box collaboration. Unfortunately this offer will only last for the first six months, after which storage for LG owners will drop to 5GB while non-LG owners will only receive 2GB.

"LG Cloud is the first that allows users to manage and consume all types of content on 'three screens' which includes Android smartphones, PCs and smart TVs... without a separate set-top box," LG explains.

LG’s cloud service, which is dubbed as LG Cloud, is not similar to Google Drive, but more on line with iCloud from Apple.

LG Optimus[White ] 4X HD Poses For The Camera

The LG Optimus 4X HD was announced back in February, and the handset is due to go on sale within the next couple of months in the UK, Europe and US, and now the guys over at ePrice have managed to get their hands on a white version of the smartphone.

The LG Optimus 4X HD gets compared to the new HTC One X by the guys from ePrice and we get a good look at the device as well as some benchmark comparison’s between the two smartphones.

As a reminder, the LG Optimus 4X HD is powered by a quad core 1.5GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, and it features a 4.7 inch IPS multi-touch HD touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

The Optimus 4X HD features the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and it features 1GB of RAM and 16GB of build in storage, there is also a 2,150mAh battery and it comes with DLNA and MHL.

Announces of LG Smart TV 3D World Store

LG has today announced a new addition to its 3D Smart TV service that will enable viewers to access 3D content directly from their TVs, using a new 3D World Store service.

The new LG 3D Store called 3D World will provide viewers with a library of 3D entertainment including movies, sports, documentary, children’s programmes, and lifestyle series. That will be available to LG’s Cinema Smart TV users in 70 countries around the world.
The new 3D World will be offered as an in app-format for 2011 Cinema 3D Smart TVs. 2012 models will use the streamlined card system on the Home Dashboard. Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company explains:

Sprint Resumes Gingerbread Rollout for LG Optimus S April 4th, Bugs Should Be Zapped

When Sprint originally pushed Gingerbread to their army of LG Optimus S users, the update broke a lot more than it fixed or improved. All sorts of issues plagued users, including one where the phone would refuse to charge.
That’s a pretty grave bug and Sprint was forced to pull the update and fix it. It appears that they’ve ironed all of those issues out, though, as they’ll soon be resuming updates via a staggered over-the-air process. Here’s a long list of the changes you will find:

LG Optimus S Software Update – Android 2.3 (LS670ZVJ)
Enhancements/Fixes:
- Device not charging
- SD card un-mounting error
- Device not recognized by Windows SP, Vista, or 7 operating systems
- Predictive Text with Android Keyboard issue
- Voice call volume issue
- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
- Updated color scheme (includesdarker notification bar and black-based menus)
- New on-screen keyboard (supports multi-touch input and a smart auto-correction function)
- Improved cut-paste functionality
- New integrated download application for ease in accessing downloaded files
- Updated camera application
- Power management and task killer applications

All of this is coming to users April 4th and will be rolled out in stages. It’ll take up to 21 days to get the update to everyone so don’t panic if it doesn’t show up at 12 AM on the aforementioned date. [Sprint]

LG Lucid 4G Official; Coming March 29th for $80

It’s a four inch device which has a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5 megapixel 1080p HD camera, and Android 2.3. Don’t fret, though, as Verizon promises Ice Cream Sandwich will be in tow for anyone who buys the phone.
