HTC One X+ May Be on Its Way to T-Mobile

There's good news for T-Mobile customers who have been hoping to get their hands on HTC's flagship smartphone: the HTC One X+ will reported be introduced by this carrier in the fall.

HTC has pinned much of its hopes on turning around its recent reversals on the One series, but so far has not had tremendous success getting the One X, One S, and One V into wide availability. At present, the only U.S. carrier offering the One X is AT&T. But that will change in a couple of months, if published reports turn out to be correct and T-Mobile introduce this device on September 26.

Quad Core, Not Dual Core
T-Mobile's version of this Android smartphone will supposedly be superior to AT&T's on one respect -- it will sport a quad-core 1.7 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3+ processor. The AT&T version has a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU because the NVIDIA chip doesn't support 4G LTE. T-Mobile doesn't yet have an LTE network, so it can use the faster option. The name of the Tegra 3+ is allegedly why this device will be called the HTC One X+.

It's also possible T-Mobile's version will debut running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) the latest version of Google's mobile operating system. AT&T's version currently has version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), though an upgrade is in development.

Aside from these changes, the One X+ is expected to be virtually identical to the already-available one. That means it will include a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 super LCD. It will likely have 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD memory card slot.

Other features could include support for T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ network, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, plus an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing one.

T-Mobile already offers the HTC One S, which sells for $200. It has a slightly smaller display than the One X, and has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor.

T-Mobile Announces the $50/month and provides customers with unlimited data roaming

The “Open Europe” plan is only $50 a month and provides customers with unlimited data roaming, though its caveat can be gleaned from its name: the service will only be offered in 28 European countries. Additionally, only the first 500MB will be “full-speed data.”

 T-Mobile’s Open Europe plan offers 3G and 4G data speeds (depending on coverage) at the aforementioned $50 flat rate. By comparison, Verizon Wireless offers a 100MB international data plan for $25, with every additional 100MB of data costing you another $25. That’s probably just enough data to quickly check your email, browse the web, or check for Facebook updates. Verizon’s international data plan is available for all Verizon Wireless subscribers outside the US in 120 countries, including all of Europe, South America, the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada.

T-mobile had a Press conference last night and Unsurprisingly, the company expand their network. The company is using the $4 billion and spectrum licenses to do exactly what they need to stay competitive with other carriers: expand their HSPA+ coverage and, more importantly, roll out LTE.
As the FCC has now approved the AWS spectrum transfer from AT&T as part of the breakup deal, T-Mobile has gained enough spectrum, in addition to their refarming plans to enable to launch of LTE in AWS spectrum and up to 20MHz of LTE in 75% of the top 25 markets.

“We’re making great progress on our four billion dollar 4G network transformation,” said Neville Ray, chief technology officer, T-Mobile USA. “With these partners on board and the AT&T AWS spectrum secured, we’re on track to enhance our 4G experience this year and deliver nationwide LTE in 2013.”

T-Mobile reiterates their wish to launch 4G HSPA+ in the 1900 band in a large number of markets by the end of the year. Current testing shows a 33% increase in HSPA+ data speeds and improved in-building coverage. “Rolling out 4G HSPA+ services in the 1900 MHz band will also offer customers with the ability to use a broader range of devices, including the iPhone, on T-Mobile’s 4G network.”

“In contrast to our competitors, nearly half of T-Mobile’s postpaid smartphone customers are using a 4G device,” said Ray. “Not only are we delivering a fast 4G experience to a higher percentage of our customers, we’re also making it more affordable to step up to 4G. Today, T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced multi-year agreements with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to support T-Mobile’s $4 billion 4G network evolution plan, including network modernization and deployment of long term evolution (LTE) service in 20131.

As part of the agreements, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks will provide and install state of the art, Release 10 capable equipment at 37,000 cell sites across T-Mobile’s 4G network, increasing signal quality and enhancing performance beginning in 2012. T-Mobile also expects to be the first carrier in North America to broadly deploy antenna integrated radios, enabling accelerated deployment and reduced site loading.

Last week, T-Mobile secured the AWS spectrum licenses from AT&T which were agreed to as part of the breakup of the proposed merger between the two companies. This new spectrum, in addition to the refarming effort, enables the launch of LTE in AWS spectrum and up to 20 MHz of LTE in 75% of the top 25 markets.

The company’s timing for LTE allows T-Mobile to take advantage of the latest and most advanced LTE technology infrastructure, improving the overall capacity and performance of its 4G network, while optimizing the company’s spectrum resources. T-Mobile will also apply deep LTE technology experience gained from its parent, Deutsche Telekom, a recognized global leader in LTE development and standardization.

As part of the company’s network modernization effort, T-Mobile also plans to launch 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band in a large number of markets by the end of the year. Network modernization trials have shown up to a 33 percent increase in HSPA+ data speeds as well as improved in-building coverage. T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II Owners still waits for ICS update to Galaxy S II  the latest 32.3MB sized software update for T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II is none other than a maintenance update. Bumping up its software to version T989UVLDE, it mainly consists of the usual set of bug fixes we’re normally accustomed to seeing with most new software updates
As it currently stands, it’s being rolled out to devices through June 22nd, which really makes you wonder even more when we’ll see another one for Ice Cream Sandwich.

If you haven’t seen that notification popping up on your handset, you can obviously push the process by checking for it manually. So what exactly is included with this maintenance update? It features a fix for random reboot/power off problems, device stability improvements, a Qualcomm chip patch, and Google Security fixes.

Some of you guys are probably aware that due to the patent dispute between HTC and Apple, some of HTC’s devices have been held up at the US Customs. However in the latest update, it seems that some of HTC’s devices have started clearing customs and should be arriving at their designated carriers soon, thus signaling that this hold up should be temporary and could be ending soon – or is it? According to some reports, it seems that T-Mobile has started sending out emails to some of their customers informing them that the HTC Amaze 4G has been delayed “due to an unforeseen issue with receiving the product from the manufacturer.”

Unfortunately the carrier is unable to provide customers with an estimate as to when the device will be made available and has even gone as far as suggesting the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G as an alternative. Could this delay be due to the ongoing patent dispute between HTC and Apple? Since neither T-Mobile nor HTC has given an official statement regarding the matter, we guess for now if you were hoping to get a HTC Amaze 4G from T-Mobile, you’d be out of luck.

While earlier T-Mobile USA doesn't sell the iPhone itself, last summer it claimed to have more than one million subscribers wielding unlocked iPhones on its network. But those subscribers have been limited to sluggish 2G speeds, a problem the company's CTO Neville Ray says it is working on; the company plans to shift some of its spectrum, allowing iPhones to run at full 3G speeds.

T-Mobile's network improvements will allow it to offer HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band compatible with current iPhone hardware "by the end of the year".

As part of the company’s network modernization effort, T-Mobile also plans to launch 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band in a large number of markets by the end of the year. Network modernization trials have shown up to a 33 percent increase in HSPA+ data speeds as well as improved in-building coverage. T-Mobile USA Chief Technology Officer Neville Ray acknowledged that the spectrum refarming will allow the carrier to aggressively target current AT&T customers whose contracts have lapsed by the end of the year.

Ray declined to comment on whether the company would directly target iPhone users in a big marketing push planned for later this year. 
“It would make sense,” Ray agreed, but added, “We’re not there yet.”

T-Mobile Bobsled voice and messaging service tops one million users

Last night’s network news dominated T-Mobile’s early CTIA announcements, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give a hearty pat on the back to their Bobsled service for surpassing one million users.Bobsled launched in 2011 as a way to allow users to “…make free phone calls over almost any data connection from their mobile and Wi-Fi-enabled devices including Android-powered smartphones and tablets as well as iOS devices.”

“T-Mobile is committed to expanding innovative communication experiences beyond our own wireless customer base to include people across all networks, devices, countries and carriers,” said Brad Duea, senior vice president, T-Mobile USA. “The popularity and continued growth of the Bobsled service is testament to consumers’ desire for simple ways to stay connected with friends and family.”

T-Mobile brought with some facts to help support Bobsled’s growth:

– Since April 2011, more than 10 million calls have been made on the Bobsled Calling application.

– Of the millions of Bobsled calls made to phone numbers, 80 percent originate from outside the U.S.

– Of the more than 1 million Bobsled Calling users, 95 percent are not T-Mobile wireless subscribers, showing that the company’s strategy of universal communication is resonating with both T-Mobile customers and noncustomers alike.

– Although Bobsled Calling has seen significant international usage, Bobsled Messaging users are predominately U.S. based, with 90 percent of messages sent domestically.

Bobsled Messaging is available for free of charge on all Android-powered smartphones and tablets through the Google Play store. The Bobsled calling application is available for download through Google Play and iTunes. In my eyes, Bobsled is a bona-fide Google Voice contender, now all it needs is a little more marketing for the public to discover its existence. All in all, it’s a reliable service and definitely one for international travelers to keep an eye on.

T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 42 network with devices such as the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G and the HTC One S coming soon to T-Mobile. 

Ray also announced that it was in fact the acquired spectrum from the failed AT&T deal that will allow T-Mobile to deploy LTE in 2013. When asked about the company’s claim for “no clear path to LTE” during the AT&T talks, Ray responded by saying “…Most importantly, we’re getting new AWS spectrum as a result of the termination of the AT&T deal (pending regulatory approval), which we will use for LTE.” 

Finally, T-Mobile also announced multi-year agreements with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks as suppliers for its LTE network, set to launch in 2013.

T-Mobile Officially launched the Huawei prism at $20 Contract

T-Mobile's Huawei Prism priced at $20 on-contract or $150 outright  We have been hearing about this device since early March and yesterday we finally learned that it should be released on May 6th. According to an official T-Mobile press release that was released today.

it’s going to bring forth all the wonderful features of Android. Specifically, it packs a 3.5” HVGA display, 3.2-megapixel rear camera, 3G connectivity, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Interestingly, its processor type wasn’t mentioned in the press release, but really, we can’t expect a pencil pusher with this one. For those of you that are curious, it’s speculated to be packing a measly 600MHz single-core CPU.

T-Mobile Announces the Android 4.0 update of HTC sensation and T-mobile says it will be rolling out to users “very soon.”.
That is good news. Usually the official update rollout begins very shortly after the testing process has been completed. T-Mobile will need to get everything in place and will then start pushing out the update for the Sensation. While “very soon” could mean anything, considering all the other Sensations have already received the update we have a feeling T-Mobile will be working hard to bring this to customers as fast as possible so stay tuned for further details.

HTC phones with QWERTY keyboards in the future

Though the QWERTY keyboard has had a special place in HTC’s Android lineup going back to phones like the T-Mobile G1, the form factor looks to be phased out by the Taiwanese manufacturer in the future. Speaking at a press event in Seattle, HTC creative director Claude Zellweger said that HTC will be “moving away from [the QWERTY keyboard] in general.” He explained that the extra effort placed in refining physical keyboard design would detract from other areas of devices and that time is better spent improving HTC’s software input methods.
The physical keyboard has been on the decline, with fewer handsets sporting a slider form factor. The QWERTY persists mostly with BlackBerry devices and those designed to emulate them. The move towards increased input area via larger screen sizes and thinner phones utilizing unibody design makes the full QWERTY keyboard an expendable option.

HTC One S introduced by T-Mobile the live from New York

T-Mobile threw a little get-together high above New York's Meatpacking district tonight, and we were there to catch a glimpse at the star of the show: the HTC One S. The carrier was celebrating the launch of its cut of the One line, the 4.3-inch mid-leveler packing the same dual-core S4 processor and 8 MP camera as its big brother, the One X. We've already put the S though its paces these past few weeks, but we couldn't help fawning over it again tonight. While the screen isn't top of the line, the size, Sense 4.0+ Ice Cream Sandwich, and camera have us downright smitten. And while the S was the guest of honor, T-Mobile included some other goodies for its guests, including a look at its new ad campaign (yes, Carly was there) and a live performance from Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Nokia Lumia 900 coming to T-Mobile this summer?

AT&T has been getting a lot of love lately with the Lumia 900 and Titan II launching. If you’re on another carrier you might be feeling a little left out. We’ve got some news that Team Magenta will be happy to hear. Andrew Bares from WMPU walked into his local T-Mobile store and started talking to one of the employees about Windows Phone. The employee told Andrew that the “Lumia 900 will be coming to T-Mobile this summer.”
This would line up with the rumor that AT&T only has exclusive rights to the 900 for 45 days, but we’re still a little hesitant to put our trust in a random T-Mobile employee. There have been rumors for every major U.S. carrier to get the Lumia 900. At this point we’ll just have to sit back and see who comes through.

T-Mobile UK rolling out Lumia 800 12070 firmware update for customers

T-Mobile UK are rolling out the Lumia 800 12070 firmware update, according to customers who have received the notification. We received a few comments on our article covering the Three UK roll out last week that T-Mobile still haven't kick-started the process.
As mentioned before, depending on carriers who chose to release it, the 12070 firmware update will be rolled out to new countries on April 4th, 11th, and 18th until the update has been pushed out to every Lumia 800.
The firmware 12070 "battery fix" update will significantly improve available use between charges by optimisation to bring down the discharge rate. We noticed after updating a drop from 200mAh to <100mAh

Invites for April 18 HTC One S event send by T-mobile

With rumors piling on that the HTC One S will launch on April 25th at T-Mobile, the carrier just sent out invites to an April 18th press event to showcase the new phone. With an image of the phone a focal point of the invitation, TMo won’t keep us guessing till the last minute. It is likely that the availability of the phone will made official at the event along with a few other details pertinent to its launch such as pricing. Unless T-Mobile has something crazy up their sleeve, the late April availability of the One S looks to be right on track.

Another UK mobile carrier has announced that it will be selling two of HTC’s new smartphones, T-Mobile will offer the HTC One X and HTC One S here in the UK from the 5th of April.

And both devices will be available with a range of T-Mobile’s contracts here in the UK this Friday the 5th of April, although we don’t has yet have any pricing details
As soon as we get some more information on how much T-Mobile will be charging for the HTC One X and the HTC One S along with details of what contracts will be available we will let you guys know.

T-Mobile Confirms Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G

T-Mobile was mum on any sort of specific release date for the software. In the world of Android, carriers, especially American carriers, never make it easy on customers so this should come as no surprise.
The announcements were made on T-Mobile’s support forums and while they were vague, they do provide a place for Amaze 4G and Sensation 4G owners to go in order to get the official details about the updates when that information becomes available.

So while the lack of a release date is certainly nothing to write home about, the assurance that an update is coming is certainly nice, especially when both of these devices appear to be on the verge of getting pushed off of shelves.

T-Mobile USA has begun selling a new Android smartphone, the Galaxy S Blaze 4G from Samsung. The device is available online and in all T-Mobile retail stores starting today. The Galaxy S Blaze 4G offers a 3.97-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display and is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The phone is also compatible with T-Mobile's 42Mbps HSPA+ network. The price tag for the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G smartphoneis $149.99, with a two year service agreement.

HTC One S running on T-Mobile spotted in the wild

For those of you who are waiting for the HTC One S because you are not willing to break the bank for the high-end and also upcoming HTC One X, we have good news for you. The video embedded above was found of a guy playing around with the device that will be coming to T-Mobile but strangely carries no branding and he rightly says, many of us want what he has.
If you missed our last report on the device, the phone will feature a 4.3” display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP rear camera and will come loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with an overlay of HTC Sense 4.0. It will also be HTC’s slimmest smartphone to date measuring in at 7.8mm. As you might have noticed from the video, the device which carried no branding was running on T-Mobile’s software. While we cannot be sure if this is an older model that was selected for testing or not but the fact is that this video does show a HTC One S running T-Mobile software and that is what is exciting.
