Canonical Releases Ubuntu For Android

Canonical, which is the parent company of Ubuntu Linux has now started to think big. Canonical today released Ubuntu for Android. This is a unique partnership through which Canonical hopes to bring Ubuntu Linux’s trademark desktop to dual-core or quad-core Android smartphones that have been docked with a monitor and a keyboard. With this system in place, Canonical says that a consumer would be able to use the Android OS on their phone and the Ubuntu desktop as it runs on your PC on the same mobile device in such a way that there will be seamless sharing of messages, contacts and any other commonly used services.

The company further went on to claim that the phone experience will remain as it is, that is, a pure Android experience as it is on any normal Android mobile phone. The difference will become obvious when the device is paired with a computer monitor, as it will then launch a proper Ubuntu desktop display on the computer monitor. This desktop will be exactly the same as the Ubuntu Unity desktop that many consumers out there are already using, and will include every one of Ubuntu’s current apps including the ones related to photography, music, video and, perhaps most importantly, office productivity.

These hybrid Ubuntu/Android tablets and smartphones will pool together and share all their services and data together between these two environments by running simultaneously on the mobile device. This effectively means that Android applications like telephony, texting and contacts will be accessible from the Ubuntu interface too.via-mobilebloom
