Facebook to launch IPO, could start at $5 billion and grow, grow, grow

Facebook are now expected to raise $5 billion in a preliminary IPO prospectus on Wednesday morning. This is much less than expected, but could balloon out from here based on investor demand "according to sources close to the deal," reports the International Financing Review.

The smaller deal is reportedly reflecting a decision to start with a conservative base, before deciding whether to increase. Facebook has chosen to hire five bookrunners including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital and JP Morgan. This list could grow, also.

Facebook are expected to finalise the IPO process by May, if everything goes right with the registration process with the SEC. It has been reported that Facebook have been "unusually guarded" about the process for selecting banks involved in the underwriting syndicate. Obviously because this would be not only a stressful move, but a very strategic move for their future growth.

T-Mobile shaves $10 off the Lumia 710, Microsoft giving them away on their site

T-Mobile launched the Lumia 710 for $50 on the 11th of January for $49.99 with a two year contract. Three weeks later, that price is now down to $39.99. Microsoft, who apparently has an online store that this author had no idea even existed, is also now selling the Lumia 710 … for free. That’s right, they’re giving it away with a two year contract. Earlier today we also saw a tweet from Eldar Murtazin, Editor in Chief of Mobile-Review, saying thatthe Lumia 710 is on sale in Russia for 9890 rubles ($325). That’s down nearly 27% compared to the 13,490 ruble price tag the device had when it launched in Russia on December 15th. Notice a trend? It’s bad enough Nokia wasn’t forthcoming about how many Windows Phones they sold in Q4 2011, that poor traction is also rearing its ugly head into the first quarter of this year as well. And that’s a shame really since we’re big fans of the Lumia 710 due to the value you get for your money. Sure, Windows Phone Mango may not be the world’s perfect mobile OS, but for $325 you’d be hard pressed to find something better, unless you go with something used that is.

What we want to know is how much are devices based on the next version of Windows Phone, codename Tango, going to cost? Tango is rumored to be a low cost version of Windows Phone that’s meant to be sold in a much wider range of markets than where the Lumia is today. Earlier this week we filed a report that said Tango would bring support for up to 120 languages to Windows Phone, including Hindi, which would make it perfect for the emergine markets. If the Lumia 710 is already going for $325 in Russia, then would a Tango device hit the elusive sub $200 price segment?

Razer’s $2,799 gaming notebook sold out in 30 min

At CES we saw many unique mobile computing products. The floor was crawling with me-too UltraBooks,  but perhaps one of the more unique offerings came from gaming peripheral maker Razer in the form of its Blade gaming laptop. Now comes the news that the Razer Blade has already sold out in just 30 minutes. Unique to the notebook is its switchblade multitouch trackpad which is highly customizable for a myriad of tasks. I guess PC gaming is still alive and kicking!

Acer To Launch $699 Ultrabooks This Year

Ultrabooks were popular at this years CES, although most of the models we have seem so far are higher priced around the $1,000 and above mark, Intel has been looking to get the price of these new notebooks down.

One company that intends to launch a range of more budget friendly ultrabooks this year isAcer, and the company has announced that will be introducing new ultrabooks in the $699 to $799 price range.

Although these new ultrabooks will be cheaper, Acer are looking to concentrate less on price and more on the actual user experience of the device, as the company’s president said that the high end and low end markets are dominated by Apple and Amazon at the moment.

Acer has said that they will be focusing on mid range devices, which offer a wide range of features for a lower price, and if Acer do manage to produce decent ultrabooks in this price range then other manufacturers are bound to follow, this will reduce the price of ultrabooks overall, which would be good news for consumers.

At MWC 2012 Samsung Galaxy S III Not Coming This Month

Many of us were expecting Samsung to launch their third generation Galaxy S smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S III at this year MWC 2012 which takes place later this month.

The last thing we heard from Samsung was that they were reviewing when they would actually launch the device, and now Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S III will not launch at MWC 2012.

Samsung told Tech Radar that the Galaxy S III will launch at a separate event later in the year, and this event will be some time in the first half of 2012, so that means some time between now and the end of June, you can see the Samsung statement below.

“Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012.
“The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.”

So obviously Samsung is looking to launch the Samsung Galaxy S III closer to the devices actual release date, which would mean that it should land some time in June at the latest.

This should allow Samsung to release the Galaxy S III at the same time globally, which would avoid the situation they had with the launch of the Galaxy S II last year, as the device was available in Europe a couple of months before it launched in the US.
