Apple Design Guru Jony Ive Given British Visionary Innovator Award

Apple’s longtime head of industrial design has won yet another prestigious award. As part of its World Intellectual Property Day celebration, Britain’s Intellectual Property Office has given Jony Ive the title of British Visionary Innovator for 2012. The award is given “ to celebrate people who have achieved considerable success or developed innovative products, services or designs.”
Ive won with nearly half of the votes, while Sir Tim Berners-Lee (inventor of the internet) came in second place. The London-born Apple designer has been called “Most Influential Person on British Culture” by the BBC, “Product Designer of the Year” by GQ UK, and the second “Most Powerful Person in Technology” by Forbes. He holds nearly 600 design patents and has even been knighted by the Queen of England twice.
Since he joined Apple in 1997, Ive has overseen the design of products like the iMac, MacBook, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
