Samsung expected to announce new Galaxy Tab with 2GHz dual-core processor at MWC

In the last few days there has been a deluge of chatter from Samsung, focused around the impeding launch of the Galaxy S III at MWC, which now appears to be in a flux. Now comes a report courtesy Android and Me that the South Korean consumer electronics giant will launch a new version of the Galaxy Tab in lieu of the Galaxy S III smartphone. According to the report, the new tab will become the first ARM A15 based device and will boast of a 2-GHz Exynos 5250 dual-core processor based on ARM’s A15 design, a display slightly larger than 10-inches with a WXQGA resolution (2560×1600 pixels), a Mali T-604 graphics chip, and all day battery life. Needless to say, it will be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Taylor Wimberly, who posted the story on Android and Me, claims to have seen a prototype of the device at CES and notes that if Samsung is not announcing the Galaxy S III at MWC then surely it will launch a new Galaxy Tab, an assessment with which we concur.
Previously we reported that Samsung might not launch the Galaxy S III at MWC and an executive had stated that the unveil was under review. While this might be true for the Galaxy S III, this will not be the case for the new Galaxy Tab. The current generation Galaxy S II is a highly successful product through out the world. Samsung is already tasting more success in the smartphone segment with Galaxy Nexus, so a new flagship launch will cannibalize the sales of the current generation products, however Samsung has not enjoyed such a level of success in tablet market so it will make sense for them to release a new model especially before the next generation iPad is released. One should note that the iPad 3 is expected to receive a higher resolution display, so if Samsung manages a first movers advantage in this market similar to what it gained with the Galaxy S II in wake of the delayed iPhone 4S launch, it may have a shot at competing with the iPad.
