iPad 3 to launch on Steve Jobs’ birthday - February 24

Citing Chinese language newspaper Economic Daily News (which in turn cites sources close to the supply chain), Focus Taiwan reports that the iPad 3 might launch on Steve Jobs’ birthday.
I half-joked a few weeks ago about a February launch for the iPad 3, and if there’s any truth in this latest rumour, it’ll launch on February 24.

The first iPad was revealed in January 2010 and released three months later, while the iPad 2 was unveiled and released in March 2011. As such, a February 2012 launch doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch.
However, in order to meet the deadline, it’s reported that employees of various iPad 3 component manufacturers have been asked to cut their Lunar New Year holidays to five days.
The big sexy feature of the iPad 3 is expected to be its display, rumoured to weigh in with a whopping 2048x1536 resolution. The first and second generation iPads had a comparatively modest 1024x768.
Economic Daily News also mentions the possibility of a Google tablet within the next six months. Well, we knew that already. Eric Schmidt told Italy’s Corriere della Sea newspaper this week: “In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality”.
