Verizon Wireless has just officially informed us that the much anticipated Google Galaxy Nexus by Samsung will be available for purchase tomorrow, December 15 online and in stores for $299.99 with a two-year contract.
The Galaxy Nexus is the first device on the market to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it also offers support for Verizon's 4G LTE network - something that the European spec Galaxy Nexus lacks.
The Galaxy Nexus features a large, 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD touchscreen display with 720p (1280 x 720 pixel) resolution. The device is powered by a dual-core, 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and a solid 32MB of internal storage. Its 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash can record 1080p full HD video, while its forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera can be used for video chats and Google's new face unlock security feature, which allows users to unlock their phone by simply looking at it.
Verizon notes that the Google Galaxy Nexus, as a 4G LTE device, is eligible for Verizon's double data promotion, meaning that customers who sign up for the required minimum $30 per month, 2GB data plan will be entitled to 4GB of monthly data instead. The nation's number 1 carrier also notes that its LTE network now covers 200 million people in the United States with typical download speeds in the 5 to 12Mbps range and uploads of 2 to 5Mbps.
A compatible voice plan, starting at $39.99 per month, is also required.
