AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Receives Retail Price Drop

The 4G Android handset which received a second-place award for Best New Mobile Device in all 4G technology for 2011 has just received a retail price drop. The ATT Samsung GalaxyS II now sells starting at $99 at select AT&T authorized retailers with a new two-year activation, and recently received that praiseworthy award at the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated solely to 4G technology. It bears mentioning that another version of the globally popular Galaxy S II, the Epic Touch 4G offered by Sprint, took top honors, as both handsets contain nearly similar technology.

That new retail price drop comes as the AT&T Samsung GalaxyS IIhits its two month anniversary, and thanks to the recent release of the Galaxy S II Skyrocket. Samsung first introduced the much anticipated Galaxy S II to foreign markets China and Asia, and those handsets immediately raced off to a 10 million units sales number their first five months of availability. That broke the previous record offered by another Samsung product, the predecessor to the Galaxy S II, the very popular Galaxy S handset. Galaxy S II versions began arriving in the US the last week of September, and the tech-crazy US consumers have helped push global sales numbers for all Galaxy S II models over the 30 million mark.

The global popularity of Samsung phones like the award-winning AT&T GalaxyS II recently helped that company move past Apple as the worldwide leader in global smartphone shipments. Probably figuring they should not mess with success, AT&T had Samsung make very few changes to their Galaxy S II, and the handset is as close to the original global version as any US model, arriving with Android’s Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box.

The handset is average in weight and size when compared to all other 4G smartphones, and delivers a 4.3 inch capacitive multitouch screen with 480 x 800 pixel resolution. That Super AMOLED Plus display offers images and video in 16 million colors, and is covered with a protective layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. Samsung also built their own hardware for the handset, using an Exynos C210 chip set, a dual core 1.2 GHz cortex A9 processing chip and Mali 400MP GPU, accompanied by 1.0 GB of RAM memory.

Buy the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II starting at only $99.99.

16 GB of storage is built in, and the Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T includes both a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder and front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam. That rear snapper provides video capture at 1080P HD, and the front facing chat cam can also place video calls. Popular Web destinations Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter have been pre-installed into the Galaxy S II.
